A Marriage Of AI And EV
Electric vehicle (EV) batteries, which are still in early development for grid use, could send power back to the electrical grid, expanding electricity sources and easing the strain on utilities, according to Inside Clean Energy.
“When EV batteries sit in garages and connect to chargers, they become a vast resource for the grid, potentially generating income for vehicle owners,” the publication reported.
This approach could reduce reliance on natural gas, coal, and certain renewable energy sources, if it works. The growth of AI server farms, projected to compete with traditional businesses and homes for electricity, underscores the value of any additional power source. However, as renewables expand, the importance of electricity sourced from EVs may diminish. For now, such a system would be a welcome addition.
One Solution Of Many
Broader trials are needed to confirm feasibility. Infrastructure changes may also be required to enable utilities to access thousands of EVs across homes, though specifics remain unclear.
Legislation might be necessary to support such a complex system. Many utilities face regulations that could limit their ability to implement these solutions.
